Proposed Major Changes

Hello Bconomists! In this blog post I wanted to outline some proposed balance changes to the game and encourage discussion. This is a rough draft and is NOT finalized, so don’t expect these changes to make it into the game as-is.

Please join our Discord server to discuss these changes. I will be actively responding to posts made in our #suggestions channel. Further communications will be sent once any changes have been finalized. Thanks for reading!

Overview

Bconomy’s current Seasons system intends to keep the game refreshed with quarterly “resets” of Quest Level with new rewards. However, it unfortunately has become increasingly difficult to create new Items/Specials in-game that feel impactful each Season without jeopardizing the balance and economy of the game.

With the new proposed changes, current core game progress would be reset with each Season. This sounds bad, I know! However, it should be a net positive.

Season-limited progress allows the game to be faster-paced and more dynamic without fear of damaging the economy long-term. Different Items and gameplay loops will rotate in each Season (instead of the same Pets, Farm and Generator each time). Current Market and many captcha restrictions can be lifted as well. A new endgame system will also be added which advances based on your progression during each Season. Please see below for the full list of proposed changes!

Seasonal Progress Resets

At the end of each Season, your core game progress will be reset. This includes:

  • Wallet and Inventory
  • Rank and Prestige
  • Pet Stables, Farm Plots, Generator Slots
  • Faction Grand Halls and FP
  • Market Listings

The following will NOT be reset:

  • Statistics
  • Trophies
  • Pets (will keep their Species, Skin, Aura, but NOT Level and Tier)
  • Faction (but NOT Multipliers, Grand Halls, FP)
  • Profile Customizations

Gameplay Changes

As previously stated, each Season will act as a reset of core game progress, meaning all players will generally start from the same position. Gameplay will thus be tweaked to be faster paced, fitting within a 3-4 month period to allow a casual player to reach “endgame”.

Each Season will rotate in different Items and Specials, as well as gameplay systems, to keep things dynamic. For example, instead of having Generators, the Summer season might introduce sea exploration, or the Winter season might have space exploration. Loot tables for Actions and Crates will be changed per Season as well. This means each time there’s a reset, you’ll have to adapt your strategy and find new ways to progress quickly.

There have been also countless ideas for things I’d like to add into the game that I haven’t been able to, due to fears of irreversibly breaking progression. Soft resets each season will allow me to add experimental and dynamic Items and Specials that everyone can enjoy without fears of ruining the game permanently. More content is always a good thing!

Lastly, as in any MMO with an economy, late-game players tend to be a centralizing force by virtue of their longer playtime. Bconomy has restrictions like the Mercantilist perk and minimum market listing prices to artificially address these imbalances and preserve early game progression for new players. By having seasonal resets in place, these restrictions can be lifted, and a more organic in-game economy can be restored.

Long-Term Progression

Long-term progression will be moved to a new system. At the end of each Season, your progress attained will be rolled into a new currency, Eternium (ET). For example, 1B net worth for seasonal progress becomes 1 ET following the reset (THIS IS NOT FINAL).

Eternium will most likely allow you to buy “head-start” upgrades during a new Season – for example, free Tool Level upgrades or Pet Stables. It may also instead be its own separate gameplay loop that doesn’t interact with the “core” game to keep it dynamic between resets.

Closing

I do expect this proposed update to be divisive. That’s why you, the player, can help shape it! Join our Discord server to contribute to the #suggestions channel with your thoughts on this proposed change.

I promise that a formal announcement will be made well in advance of any actual major changes so that players are able to prepare.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, and, as always, thank you for playing!
